Melting Pot Made in Wrocław

The concept was based on the idea to build a multi-genre creative laboratories working on regular basis in Wroclaw and partner cities. There was a core of Wroclaw artists that met regularly and were visited by selected artists from partner countries (Dublin, Herning, Ghent, Dortmund, London). They worked on a music concept through rehearsals (open to the public as well) and each meeting resulted in a performance.

The following laboratories took place:
  • Melting Pot Made in Wrocław Lab. 7; workshop: rehearsal and concert + discussion panel, Nov. 2015
  • Melting Pot Made in Wrocław Lab. 8; workshop: rehearsal and concert, Feb. 2016
  • Melting Pot Made in Wrocław Lab. 9 – GREAT FINAL; workshop: rehearsal and concert, April 2016.

In the eighth edition of Melting Pot, alongside humans, puppets entered the stage – as puppet theater was brought into focus this time. A quartet of free improvisers (saxophone, guitar, trumpet and piano) tried to dialogue with theatre and draw puppets into their own story. The puppets in turn became participants of the improvisation.

Melting Pot Made in Wrocław Lab. 9 – GREAT FINALE / April 30, 2016 – UNESCO INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY
The 9th edition of Melting Pot was an extraordinary event – an occasion to conclude experimental ways of communication between various artistic disciplines. The main protagonist of the Melting Pot events is always improvisation. The final meeting was titled Composition for 26 Improvisers. It was a 25-minute piece devoted to the techniques of contemporary music in the 20th and 21st centuries, performed by artists, who performed in previous editions of the Lab. One thing was certain: the score alluded to the previous seven editions of the Melting Pot, and the whole show was an attempt to strike a balance between adherence to the directions given in the score and the freedom of improvisation. In the intermission a special audiovisual presentation took place in Wolności Square, featuring a sculpture by Karol Przestrzelski (from Lab. 5), played by four percussionists. The musicians were accompanied by a group of dancers.
