10th Mladí Ladí Jazz line-up: Andreya Triana, Alfa Mist and Jameszoo

For the 10th consecutive year, Mladí Ladí Jazz international festival will be making rounds with a fresh breeze of musicians and formations bravely opening the frontiers of jazz music to whole new array of genres.

The festival will kick off on the 30th of March in Archa Theatre with a performance of the phenomenal Andreya Triana - a charming vocalist, presenting her new album ("Life in Colour") in Prague for the very first time. This year's revelatory line-up also includes names such Alfa Mist - a renowned British multi-instrumentalist and producer mixing jazz and alternative hip-hop & soul, or Jameszoo - the utterly unorthodox producer, songwriter, composer & conductor from Holland. Throughout April, Prague will witness the vivid jazz fusions of jazz punks Edi Nulz and performances by the Latin American singer Yarah Bravo and the Grammy-awarded Oran Etkin, who will be performing along side a number of Czech musicians. Apart from the capital city, the festival will also visit selected regions.

The Mladí Ladí Jazz festival will also feature the traditional international Jazzfruit competition for young talent, as well as the Mladí Ladí Dětem workshop programme for children. The festival will wrap-up with a large open-air event at Charles square, taking place on the International Jazz Day, 30th of April. The line-up of the event is yet to be revealed. The concert tickets are now available in the GoOut network, with discounted prices for visitors under the age of 27 starting at 111 czk. More information can be found at www.mladiladijazz.cz. The official festival playlist is available on Spotify – http://bit.ly/mlj2019-Spotify .

The Mladí Ladí Jazz festival has gained exceptional reputation amongst the Czech and European music scene. The dramaturgy focuses on mostly young listeners, creators and artists. For the last 10 years, the festival has been conducting an uninhibited search for some of the most interesting new names and has been introducing artists who have managed to bring a fresh breeze to world of Jazz, while crossing the borders of styles & genres, effectively keeping jazz in contact with a younger audience. This is also reflected in the friendly ticket prices for visitors under the age of 27. This line is also continued by the international Jazzfruit competition for young jazz musicians, which has been part of the festival from it's very beginning.

This year, the opening of the festival belongs to Adreya Triana, a phenomenal London-based singer who has been betting on a single card since her teenage years: her passion for music. She was soon discovered and had the opportunity of working with producers such as Bonobo (the producer of her first Ninja Tune record) or Flying Lotus. In the Prague Archa Theatre, on March 30th, she will introduce her newest record "Life in Colour" along side her great band. The following two concerts will take place at the central festival stage at Jazz Dock. On April 6th, Edi Nulz will present a punk-jazz mix, forming a musical anarchy where everything is different than expected. Dada, decadence, humour. Drama, grotesque, nonsense. The trio is a great example of how Austrian tradition, handled by young musicians, can enhance the 21st century musical world. Two days later, on the 8th of April, a New York-based missionary of jazz fusion returns to the crime scene, as clarinetist and Grammy award winner Oran Etkin performs with an improvised body featuring a selection of significant Czech musicians.

16th of April will mark the second half the festival, as Palác Akropolis welcomes London-based musician Alfa Mist. Originally profiling himself as a hip-hop & grime producer, he started learning the piano and eventually found himself mesmerised by the world of jazz and film soundtracks. Those are probably the roots of his original sound which manages to mix melancholic jazz with alternative hip-hop and soul. The next name is Jameszoo, a dutch producer who likes to call his work "naive computer jazz" and who we like to point out as one of the most interesting artists of the current European scene. On his "Fool" album, released by Flying Lotus's Brainfeed label, he worked with more than 25 excellent musicians. On that album, Jameszoo acts as a conductor and arranger obeying absolutely no rules at all. The original music concept where hectic and unorganised chaos find cohesion and unity will surely catch attention of many minds at MeetFactory on the 24th of April. The mesmerising singer & rapper Yarah Bravo will transfix the listeners at Jazz Dock on the 25th of April. BBC once said: "On her lips, even a shopping list would sound profound and moving". She was born in Sweden to Chilean and Brazilian parents, she broadened her horizons in NYC, moved to London and finally settled in Berlin. She was also a significant third the One Self project on the Ninja Tune label and recorded her last EP "Love is The Movement" in Vienna.

The closing concert of the festival will take place on the 30th of April, however the line-up set to play on the International Jazz Day remains a secret. We can only hint that two festival stages will welcome and array of of local and international jazz stars, as well the winner of the Jazzfruit competition.

As in previous years, the festival will travel throughout the republic with the educational program Mladí Ladí Dětem, hosted by the Grammy award winner Oran Etkin. The traditional Jazzfruit competition for new jazz talent is accepting applications until the end of March. The winners will receive a whole set of benefits - ranging from recording their own record, through music equipment, to performing at the closing open-air event and much more.
