49 CONCERTS JOIN THE PROGRAMME OF THE 58TH SAN SEBASTIAN JAZZ FESTIVAL

We now complete the programme for the coming edition of the Jazzaldia with performances to take place at the Frigo Gunea, Fnac Gunea, Nauticool, Garbera, the Club Room in the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, San Martín Merkatua, María Cristina Hotel, Irun and the Fnac Foruma.

A total of 49 concerts join the programme already announced, 46 of which will be free, while 22 will feature local performers and others a large group of international artists.
 

Local groups:

Ten local groups boasting a very high level have been selected following a process first of involving the submission of 65 applicants, followed by 15 concerts in clubs throughout the city. The 10 groups selected, and who will play for the first time at the 58th Jazzaldia are: Isla Trío, Xahu, Motelas, Les Cuisinières, Lutfi Jakfar Sixth Trio, Arnaud Labastie Trio, Amaika Rude, Mikel Legasa’s Quintet, Xavi Maldonado and David Cid Quartet and Kinkfolk.

All of the above will be joined by a concert given by another artist from San Sebastián, but this time well-established: Elena Setién, in a performance at the Nauticool.
 

Katapulta Tour Gipuzkoa:

Katapulta Tour Gipuzkoa is a program promoted by the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council’s Department of Culture, Cooperation, Youth and Sports, and by Kutxa Fundazioa, which is dedicated to promoting young talents in Gipuzkoa in the fields of music and the performing arts. From the groups participating in this year’s circuit, the San Sebastian Jazz Festival has selected 4 bands who will perform at the 58th edition: Bamms, Nakar, Olana Liss and Ramada Inn.
 

International Artists:

The large number of international artists already announced, both paying and free, are joined by some twenty concerts given by European, America, Asian and African music, including the first-class: Jerry Bergonzi Quartet, Damir Imamović, Ill Considered, The Side Effects, Sara Dowling, Bengue, Conversessions, Eri Yamamoto Trio, Michele Hendricks & Ronald Baker Project, Five Stars, The Mississippians and Pacific Jazz Ambassadors
 

Collaborations:

The San Sebastian Jazz Festival continues to collaborate with institutions that help to expand and diversify its musical programme. Three of the concerts we announce today enjoy this type of collaboration:

-Bengue: collaboration of OARA (Office Artistique Region Nouvelle-Aquitaine) and Le Rocher de Palmer de Aquitania (France).

-Conversessions: collaboration of Lazio Sound, from Italy.

-Eri Yamamoto Trio: Japan Foundation.

-Pere Bujosa: artist selected by the Jazz Spain Platform
 

Freedom First:

With the title of Freedom First, the Catalan Jazz pianist Albert Marquès brings a live presentation of the album recorded with Keith LaMar, a prisoner sentenced to death in 1993 in the USA. The 4 musicians appearing on stage will be joined, from a distance, by the voice of Keith LaMar, who will be present in the shape of voice recordings and a performance live from prison over the phone. This event will run on 24th ad 25th July in the Club Room of the Victoria Eugenia Theatre at 20:00 (€15 – Tickets can be purchased from our website and from the theatre ticket desks).
 

Concert-dinner at the María Cristina Hotel:

On 23rd July at 20:30, in the Ibaia Lounge of the María Cristina Hotel, the Eri Yamamoto Trio will give a concert preceded by a welcome drink at 20:00. The concert will be followed at 21:30 by a cocktail dinner featuring a number of hot and cold canapés plus dessert.

San Martin Merkatua:

The San Martin Market will host two concerts “Shopping to the sound of Jazz”: Fran Serrano will perform on the double bass with Gonzalo Encinal on the piano on the morning of 21 July; while on 22 July, Aitor Marimon will take to the stage on the guitar with Rodrigo Lauroba on the saxophone.
 

Fnac Foruma:

Three concerts by local groups at Fnac Foruma on July 21, 22 and 23 at 19:00.
 

Garbera:

Garbera shopping centre will, for the second year running, host part of the 58th Jazzaldia programme with 10 concerts, 2 a day, one at 12:30 and the other at 20:00.
