Exciting names announced!
Tumbuktu, Jarle Bernhoft, Ola Kvernberg and Thomas Dybdahl to participate in making Moldejazz 2014 a genre-defying event whose excess will reflect upon the playfulness and dynamics of todays music scene.
- I am very pleased with the artists we've so far been able to confirm for this years festival, said freshly employed Festival-boss Anders Eriksson.
- With the program set for Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th of June we're presenting a first glimpse into how we raise the bar for this years festival. Starting off with the very exciting, and very Norwegian, Lars Andreas Haug Band at Plassen on Wednesday, before Tom Harrells project "Colors of a Dream", where, among others, Esperanza Spalding contributes, goes on at Bjørnsonhuset to give us timbral delights.
The recipient of the SpareBank1 JazZtipendiat 2013/14 award, Kristoffer Lo, has spent the previous year working on a larger composition, and he promises a play positioned somewhere in the span between big-band jazz and popular music.
- I look forward to the world premiere with great excitement, and I feel very privileged that I've been able to work closely with Trondheim jazzorkester. Without revealing too much it will be a personal piece, somewhere in the span between different genres Lo announced to Moldejazz.
For those inclined to bring their dancing shoes to the festival they will find that their extra luggage was not brought in vain when French-Lebanese trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf brings his unique mix of rock, jazz and traditional Arabic music to Teateret Vårt.
In his custom lineup of Trondheim jazzorkester, Lo brings in, among others, his Highasakite-colleague Ingrid Helene Håvik as a vocalist. Highasakite is also set to perform at Teateret vårt on Saturday, July 19th. With Lo's background from pop and rock as well as jazz we look forward to a personal piece with plenty of space for playful genre-crossing.
- Kristoffer Lo's project is quite defining for this years festival. We aim to showcase the span of both Norwegian and international music, with emphasis on the dissolving of genres which has become evident in our current times. No longer do we perceive that rock, jazz and hip-hop are closed-off genres, but rather we see musicians and styles interacting more closely and freely than ever before says Eriksson.
One prime example of this is Thomas Dybdahl. Bring, among others, violin-virtuoso Ola Kvernberg. The duo is set to appear as one out of three concerts at Romsdalsmuseet on Wednesday, July 16th.
Taking the stage after Kvernberg and Dybdahl is multi-instrumentalist, ex-rocker and now soulman Jarle Bernhoft. Another prime example of playful intermixing of genres.
The honors of closing out the evening of July 16th belongs to a hip-hop artist from Sweden, Timbuktu. As always backed up by what might just be Scandinavia's coolest backing band, Damn!
Jarle Bernhoft, as well as Timbuktu, find it swell to be performing at Moldejazz on the same afternoon, and look forward to sharing both the stage itself as well as the backstage-area. Who knows if more than plain socializing will take place backstage, but that the two admire each-other as artists as well as each-others music is no secret.
Previously announced by Moldejazz are Solveig Slettahjell and Highasakite. Respectively taking the stage on Thursday, July 17th, at 21:30 in Molde domkirke and on Saturday, July 19th, at midnight in Teateret vårt.
Tickets, two-day passes for Romsdalsmuseet, day-passes and week-passes have been made available at moldejazz.no
