26.1. Verneri Pohjola: Monkey Mind
Trumpetist-composer Verneri Pohjola released his eagerly awaited album "Monkey Mind" in November 2023. The album's title reflects the restless nature of the mind. Pohjola explains that the songs on the album are his way of confronting his own monkey mind, with themes of self-doubt and uncertainty. The album also marks a return to a more relaxed and enjoyable approach to music for Pohjola. He has assembled a remarkable ensemble of top-tier musicians for the project. Kit Downes on piano, Jasper Høiby on double bass, and Olavi Louhivuori on drums, all contributing their unique talents.

2.2. Áilu Valle, AMOC & Trio Boogiemen
G Livelab celebrates Sámi National Day a little bit in advance with an incredible show by Áilu Valle, AMOC and Trio Boogiemen! Áilu Valle is a rap artist from Inari, rapping in Northern Sámi, Finnish and English. He has released three solo albums in Northern Sámi. AMOC is a rapper performing in Inari Sámi, and released his debut album back in 2007. AMOC and Áilu are working on a new collaboration album, which will be released in 2024. Trio Boogiemen is a heavy rock influenced Sámi band, which consists of Oula Guttorm (guitar), Juho Kiviniemi (bass), and Patrik Fält (drums).

8.2. GA-20 (US)
GA-20 clearly is on to something big. It’s a movement, a new traditional blues revival. The dynamic, throwback blues trio are disciples of the place where traditional blues, country and rock ‘n’ roll intersect. “We make records that we would want to listen to,” says guitarist Matt Stubbs. “It’s our take on the song-based traditional electric blues we love.” Stubbs, guitarist/vocalist Pat Faherty, and drummer Tim Carman have been at the forefront of this traditional blues revival since they first formed in 2018. It’s no wonder they skyrocketed to the top of the Billboard Blues Chart.

15.2. Joshua James - Evan Coulombe - Mika Kuokkanen (US/FI)
The Utah-based Americana artist Joshua James performs at G Livelab Tampere! The critically acclaimed singer-songwriter released his latest record ”Forever in Life, for Now” in 2021. Rolling Stone has picked James as one of the ”new country names you need to know”. In February James takes the stage at G Livelab with Evan Coulombe and Mika Kuokkanen.

23.2. Virta
VIRTA is known for captivating live shows and their unique blend of ambient electronic, Nordic jazz, post-rock, and psychedelia. Their new album "Horros" reflects their evolution, with expanded sound and Finnish vocals. Previous releases like "Hurmos" (2016) garnered critical acclaim.

27.2. Ethan Iverson Trio (US)
Ethan Iverson's "Technically Acceptable" album on Blue Note Records, set for release on January 19, 2024, provides a modern take on traditional jazz. Collaborating with bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Kush Abadey, the pianist explores classic forms with a contemporary twist, reflecting his ongoing musical evolution. Iverson rose to fame as a co-founder of The Bad Plus.

29.2 Ahmed Ag Kaedy (ML) & The Shubie Brothers
Ahmed Ag Kaedy, the Tuareg guitarist from Mali, and The Shubie Brothers are collaborating on a joint album after a captivating performance in Helsinki in July 2023. Ag Kaedy, known for his desert blues sound, joins forces with The Shubie Brothers, bringing Caribbean rhythms, including reggae and surf vibes, to the project.

16.3. Pekko Käppi & K:H:H:L
Pekko Käppi is a visionary Finnish folk music composer, singer and jouhikko (a bowed lyre) player. The sound of K:H:H:L, the highly praised band led by Käppi, has a distinct odour of pop, layered with colliding rhythms and psychedelic sights. The band has released acclaimed albums, the last of which Credo in 2023.

17.3. Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, Adam Cruz Trio (PA/US)
As a solo artist and as a collaborator with jazz giants from Dizzy Gillespie to Wayne Shorter, for over three decades Grammy-Award Winning Panamanian Pianist-Composer Danilo Pérez has been lauded as one of the most creative forces in contemporary music.

19.3. Scott Henderson Trio Karnevel! Tour + Jeff Aug solo (US)
Guitar legend Scott Henderson (Tribal Tech / Chick Corea / Joe Zawinul etc.) celebrates the release of his latest album at G Livelab with his trio (Romain Labaye on bass, Archibald Ligonnière on drums) and special guest, guitarist Lina Mastalska. The evening is opened by Jeff Aug (Ape Shifter).

21.3. Iiro Rantala HEL Trio (FI/NO/UK)
Iiro Rantala, a prominent Finnish jazz musician, known for his international acclaim, has formed HEL Trio with drummer Anton Eger from Norway and bassist Conor Chaplin from the UK. 28.3.The Tiger Lillies (UK)
The Tiger Lillies, an experimental rock trio from London, is celebrated for their unique fusion of chanson, opera, and Roma influences. Fronted by singer and songwriter Martyn Jacques, the band emerged in the early '90s, earning recognition for their distinctive style. They've received accolades, including two Olivier Awards and a Grammy nomination. 18.4. John Surman Quartet: Words Unspoken (UK)
Celebrating his 80th birthday in 2024, musician John Surman introduces a new project, "Words Unspoken." Collaborating with guitarist Rob Luft, vibraphonist Rob Waring, and drummer Thomas Strønen, "Words Unspoken" continues the musical journey initiated by Surman's previous "Invisible Threads" trio. Noteworthy for incorporating percussion and electronic elements into the sonic landscape, the album is set to be released on the ECM label in spring 2024

2.5. Emmi Uimonen & The Wind Machine
Emmi Uimonen & The Wind Machine is a new orchestra piloted by jazz pianist Emmi Uimonen, whose unique gig at G Livelab in Tampere will be played by a group of top female names in jazz and improvised music.

6.5. Josephine Foster (US)

14.5. Dominic Miller: The Vagabond Tour
Dominic Miller, known as Sting's guitarist, is bringing his band to Finland. Releasing his 12th solo album, "Vagabond," through ECM, Miller's diverse musical influences range from jazz and pop to folk and Latin American music. The ensemble includes Ziv Ravitz on drums, Nicolas Fiszman on bass, and Jacob Karlzon on piano.
