Istanbul Jazz Festival releases “Young Jazz+ 23”, third of the album series in support of emerging bands from Turkey

Istanbul Jazz Festival has been supporting amateur and emerging musicians and ensembles from Turkey with its Young Jazz+ programme since 2003 by offering opportunities to perform on the festival stage and since 2021, by producing their debut recordings. Jazz, funk, R&B, neo-soul, electronic music and hip-hop are all welcomed in the programme.

“Young Jazz+ 23” features six original songs by the finalists of the 2023 edition of the Young Jazz+ competitions. After appearing before the audiences in the Jazz in the Parks series of the festival, young musicians recorded their previously unreleased songs, each produced by a prominent figure of jazz music in Turkey.

Released with the Sony Music Turkey label and recorded, mixed and mastered in the Hayyam Studios in Istanbul, the album is available on all digital platforms.

The album features songs by Eggmann Quartet produced by Volkan Öktem, BÜMK Orchestra produced by Korhan Futacı, Keskin Band produced by Okan Kaya, Esra Gürçay Quartet feat. Peter Shalamov produced by Önder Focan, Zonda 4 produced by Ayşe Tütüncü, and Projektiles produced by Selen Gülün.

Supported by the Mehmet Uluğ Fund conceived in memory of the music professional Mehmet Uluğ since its inception, the Young Jazz+ album series grew stronger with the contribution of the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts’ (İKSV) Young Artist Fund this year. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, İKSV, the parent foundation of the Istanbul Jazz Festival, initiated the fund to support the production of ambitious projects by young artists across disciplines in Turkey. 13 projects in jazz, classical music, contemporary art and cinema were supported with 100.000 USD from the fund throughout 2023.
