JazzCamp for Girls expands to Canada and Turkey in 2023

In 2023, the popular project JazzCamp for Girls expands to Canada and Turkey and thus JazzDanmark is adding two new countries to the list of global partners aiming to increase the number of female instrumentalists on the rhythmic music scene and thus furthering a more equal gender balance in the music industry.

JazzCamp for Girls started in 2014 in Denmark and is a unique educational opportunity for girls at the age of 10-15 who want to try working with composition and improvisation, no matter the choice of instrument or previous experience. The project takes place at local music schools across the country. By creating a safe space through music, where the girls can practice and acquire new skills, we hope to increase the girls’ interest in playing and composing rhythmic music.

In 2019, JazzCamp for Girls was successfully adopted to England and in 2022, the project was also adopted to Sweden, Poland and Finland. JazzCamp for Girls was initially a collaboration between JazzDanmark and Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Since 2020, JazzDanmark has run the project.
