Meet the NICA artists 2023!

NICA artist development – based at the European Centre for Jazz and Contemporary Music Stadtgarten Cologne – starts its 4th funding round this September with four new artists.

NICA artist development offers outstanding musicians from North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) working in the field of jazz and contemporary music a platform for artistic profiling and professionalization of their careers. The programme is funded by Ministry of Culture and Science of the state North Rhine-Westphalia. After being nominated by organizers, music journalists and other cultural entrepreneurs, four musicians were selected by a jury of experts.

NICA artist development's special features are the funding period of up to three years and the individual adaptability of the funding program to the needs of the individual NICA artist for his or her establishment as an artistic personality.

We are delighted to start working this autumn with pianist Marlies Debacker, singer, bassist, saxophonist and pianist Ray Lozano, as well as saxophonist Theresia Philipp and bassist Stefan Schönegg, in addition to the musicians who are already participating in the programme.
