Two young jazz orchestras meet in Oslo

Our program this autumn contains all we love in our genre. We’ve got both new and exciting Norwegian bands, some of the jazz pioneers from the 70s and 80s, and the same mix of great international names. What we would like to highlight today, is a double concert with two great, future oriented orchestras. On Tuesday October 17.th OJKOS and Concept Art Orchestra meet for a thrilling night.

OJKOS is practically our house band. They practice in our club every week, and holds concert with brand new music five to six times a year. The name is an abbreviation of Orchestra for Jazz Composers in Oslo, a regional orchestra for newly established professional jazz composers. The project took shape in the spring of 2018 as an arena for composing new music where all the members take their turn on the artistic responsibility.

OJKOS will share the stage with their Czech equivalent Concept Art Orchestra. They will perform a collaborative work “Music, picture and light”, written by seven Czech composers in collaboration with the Norwegian composer and multi-instrumentalist, Helge Sunde. The music is based on pictures taken by Norwegian photographers, which will be shown during the concert. Concept Art Orchestra is the Czech Republic's leading big band and on this occasion presents a unique line-up, which includes, among other things, a string quartet. The project has received support from a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway within the EEA programme's cultural fund.¨
