Riga Jazz Stage


In 2017 contest will be organized in categories "Jazz Vocal" and "Jazz Guitar". International jazz artists contest was founded in 2004 and it is the only jazz genre contest in Latvia that has attained such a recognition gathering young and undiscovered jazz talents from all over the World. Contest is organized by foundation "Contemporary Music centre" and since 2004 all together 116 jazz talents from 21 countries have took part in it. The aim of Riga Jazz Stage is to give chance for young jazz artists to perform on international stage together with musicians from different countries and each year contest draws more and more attention from local and foreign media. Contest equally focus on both the cultural and the educational aspect - it combines concert and contest experience together with opportunity for young musicians to gain experience, educate and build new contacts. During these years proffesional musicians, producers, directors of festivals and educators from USA, Latvia, Finland, Switzerland, Estonia, United Kingdom, Turkey and Lithuania have been among the jury members. World-class musicians have given concerts as guests of the contest - drummers Terri Lyne Carrington (USA) and Jojo Mayer (Switzerland), guitarist Giorgio Serci (UK/Italy), vocalists Mandy Gaines (USA), Anthony Strong (UK), Svenja Schmidt (Germany), China Moses (France/USA), and many others! In its beginning contest gathered jazz artists from Baltic countries, later joining Finland. Since 2013 jazz talents from Baltic and Scandinavic countries, Poland, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Great Britain, Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia, Israel, Georgia and even Canada and USA have taken part in the contest! Alongside the constant "Jazz Vocal" category, every year a different instrumental category is added. Guitar, piano, bass, drums, saxophone and trumpet have already been represented in the contest. In 2016 contest will be organized in categories "Jazz Vocal" and "Jazz Trombone".
