Jazzit – Jazz in Theatre, a culture club regularly offering Jazz concerts in the largest sense at a variety of venues throughout Salzburg since 1981, including such jazz-greats as Lester Bowie, David Murray, Henry Threadgill, Cecil Taylor, Steve Coleman, Marc Ribot, Moondog and Louis Sclavis.
After having been without its own location for a long time, Jazzit finally found a suitable spot at Elisabethstraße 11, near the main train station. Following renovation work, the Jazzit:Music:Club Salzburg opened its doors in February 2002. Since then, weekly concerts have been taking place in their spacious event hall with a music spectrum ranging from jazz to avant-garde – on to Improvised, electronic and New Music and through to Worldmusic, Klezmer & Co.
National as well as international musicians can be relished here – talented newcomers as well as already well-known acts. On top of it all, Tuesdays feature jam sessions in the Jazzit:Bar – a separate but adjacent hotspot; Wednesdays offer the DJ-Line “Homebase” (admission free).
Particularly attractive for the alternative scene – young and old – the Jazzit is a venue for entertainment in a relaxed atmosphere – a place to enjoy a drink and good music while meeting your friends; one that has developed into something no one in the regional or international culture scene could do anymore without – a place for continuous quality in concerts featuring jazz, avant-garde, electronic music, jam sessions - promoting new talents and its own CD label – the Jazzit:CD-Edition. Constantly expanding – never at a standstill – open to new, innovative, experimental ideas – this is what the Jazzit is all about.
