Lekhfa
It is not easy to be an Indie musician that makes experimental music in Egypt. There are few gig opportunities and no state support, but on the other hand one must be constantly aware of state censorship. And that makes this gripping, contemplative collaboration so remarkable. Lekhfa is the project by Maryam Saleh, Maurice Louca and Tamer Abu Ghazaleh; who have all had solo careers on the alternative Egyptian music scene. The album of the same name was released in 2017 and is based on the dystopian poems of Mido Zoheir, one of Egypt’s most talented poets of his generation. The texts are covered by a web of multi-faceted and melancholic sound, which comprises song, guitar, electronic effects and sounds from Arabian instruments.
