18.-20. January 2019
In contrast to the Summerfestival in Saalfelden the “3 Days of Jazz” is a small-scale festival which takes place in the deepest of winter in the heart of the Salzburger mountains. Along with big names from the European jazz scene, there are also young Austrian jazz formations.
Nine concerts on three stages
For the first time, the 2019 Festival will see nine concerts performed rather than seven. On Friday and Saturday, three concerts will take place at the Kunsthaus Nexus, one at the Stöcklalm in Leogang (free of charge) with two further concerts being performed at the Mining and Gothic Museum, also in Leogang. For guests arriving in Saalfelden Leogang on Thursday, there will be a screening of the Film “A Portrait of Esbjörn Svensson” in the evening.
International highlights
Musicians from France, Holland, Poland and Italy will be represented at the Winterfestival, among them the European jazz legend, Henri Texier, who will perform his current album “Sand Woman” with his Sand Quintet. Also making a first-time appearance in Austria will be the red-hot and magical trio, “Baldych - Courtois – Telderman”, for which the three exceptional musicians have spontaneously come together.
For an alternative musical interpretation, Hélène Labarrière & Hasse Poulsen will perform pop hits in a relaxed manner, while “Sudoku Killer” and bassist Caterina Palazzi from Italy sprinkle jazz with elements of post-stoner-rock.
As always Austria a focal point
Artistic Director, Mario Steidl is clearly delighted: “For me, it is essential to portray the diversity of the Austrian jazz scene at our festivals”. Each day of the festival is opened with a performance by Austrian formations, such as on Friday by the quintet “Vienna Chamber Diaries”, for which Johannes Berauer has composed the music. On Saturday Alex Pinter will perform with his trio “Birds against Hurricanes” with a mixture of guitar, piano and accordion. On Sunday at the Mining and Gothic Museum Leogang, there will be performances by Austrian musicians, including a solo performance by Christian Bacanic and the string quartet “Violett Spin”. Austria is also represented at a free concert at the Stöcklalm with the Engel Mayr trio performing atmospheric rock songs by Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
