The 11th edition of the Franco-German Festival Jazzdor Strasbourg-Berlin will once again take place at the Kesselhaus/ Kulturbrauerei Berlin from Tuesday May 30th to Friday June 2nd, 2017
In the past twelve months festival director Philippe Ochem has again been searching for outstanding bands from the French jazz scene, forging alliances between German and French musicians, and has once again filled a musical surprise package for you.
"Out of Land" is the name of the new dream team of European jazz, which will baptise their first album at Jazzdor Berlin! The two Frenchmen Émile Parisien and Vincent Peirani, the German pianist Michael Wollny and the Swiss singer and beatboxer Andreas Schaerer are known forvirtousicly crossing musical boundaries and performing at the highest level.
A meeting between two resolutely unconventional formations will surely be the concert of Quatuor IXI, one of the most exciting contemporary string quartets, and of drummer Dejan Terzic` jazz quartet Melanoia and three other important representatives of the Berlin jazz scene. Berlin based bass clarinettist Gebhardt Ullmann can count as one of the driving forces of the jazz scene of the capital since a long time. At the Festival he and Chris Dahlgren will join the French contrabassist Hélène Labarrière. The Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima, also an important musical creative post in Berlin, welcomes the French trombonist Yves Robert to his trio and takes us on a journey through his melancholic music universe.
Two new jazzdor series albums have been released in the last year. Number 4 is a tribute to the great, French contrabassist Jean-Jacques Avenel, who died far too early. Number 5 captures the unique encounter of the Ceccaldi brothers from Paris and the two Berlin musicians Ronny Graupe and Chrstian Lillinger at Jazzdor Berlin 2016. All jazzdor series CDs (1-5) are available exclusively during the festival at the Kesselhaus and at the record store Oldschool Berlin.
Four days the festival Jazzdor Berlin offers you an excellent opportunity to discover the uniqueness of jazz, taking a special look at the French jazz scene. Let us surprise you and enyoy!
