Welcome to Umeå Jazz Festival that through tradition, new creations, creativity and accessibility offers a selection of the most prominent jazz musicians of our time in Sweden and abroad. In addition to that: children's concerts, workshops, clinics and seminars.
We open up with a concert at the Tegs Church on Tuesday evening with the great organ improviser Gunnar Idenstam and continue on Wednesday together with Midgårdsskolans young talented music students at NorrlandsOperan.
On Thursday you can hear the new music composed by Finnish Iro Haarla together with the NorrlandsOperans Symphony Orchestra and later the same evening another strong female artist: AnnSofi Söderqvist Jazz Orchestra at the StudioJazz in Folkets Hus.
From Friday to Sunday the festival rules on six stages at Umeå Folkets Hus. Among our line up of exciting jazzartists: americans like vibe player Mike Mainieri´s Norther Light, Gerry Hemingway Quintet, Kenny Garrett Quintet and Pat Martino Trio, swedish musicians represented by the duo of Monica Domminique and Palle Danielsson, the singers Kristin Amparo, Sarah Riedel and Isabel Sörling, the finnish blues guitar actress Erja Lyytinen, US borne blues wizzard Eric Bibb, canadian singer/pianist Elizabet Shepherd, the three young european groups provides by 12 Points Festival; Actuum (F), Maciej Obara 4tet (P) and WorldService Project (UK). Just to name a few.
This year is the 45th edition! Welcome to this attractive festival, comprising at the same time broad selection of music and challenging, artistically improvised music. Welcome to share some magic moments in delight of great jazz & improvised music.
