1 - What's up

During the same hours we were releasing our last AkaNews, we've got informed of the passing away of Frederic Rzewski. We are very saddened by that. Let's take one minute for him. Here one obituary between many appeared on the web. RIP

...

Still continuing to commemorate, the anniversary of 9/11 arrived, and the question was the same as it has been for 20 Septembers: Whence America’s memorial music? Anthony Davis could give an answer

What a big news we've read on many US newspapers (NY Times, and on Billboard too)  few days ago: The Metropolitan Opera will present its second work by a Black composer, Anthony DavisX: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, just two years after its first. The company said Thursday (Sept. 16) that X will open on Nov. 3, 2023, in a staging by Robert O’Hara that will be conducted by Kazem Abdullah. We're looking forward!

A very recent (last night) talk with Henry Threadgill and others on Creative Music in the 21th Century streamed by National Jazz Museum in Harlem

Filarmônica de Pasárgada released on August 5th, Cartão Postal” is the new single by the São Paulo band Filarmônica de Pasárgada. The track is part of the PSSP album, the group's fourth album, whose songs are inspired by the history of the city of São Paulo (a project that will be released in March 2022). The song, an ironic version of “Luar do Sertão” (João Pernambuco/Catulo da Paixão Cearense), makes a good-humored anti-homage to the São Paulo metropolis. The single, recorded in the studio of the Experimental Recorder (Fatec Tatuí-SP), has musical production by Marcelo Segreto, mixing and mastering by Carlos “Cacá” Lima and release by the YB Music label. Cartão Postal will also feature a music video directed by Thiago Ricarte, the same director of previous clips of the group, such as “O seu Tipo” and “Fiu Fiu”.

The making of the recording is the subject of a beautyful 50 minute film by Mimi Chakarova.
