BMC Records meets Jazzfestival Saalfelden

No less than four bands from the BMC Records roster will be performing at the 44th edition of the Jazzfestival Saalfelden this year, highlighting the Budapest-based label’s European profile.

Among these unique voices of contemporary jazz is Bonbon Flamme who recently recorded their forthcoming album at the Budapest Music Center. The dazzling quartet led by cellist Valentin Ceccaldi will be performing in Saalfelden on 22 August with the explosive drums of Etienne Ziemniak, the incandescent guitar of Luis Lopes and the rainbow keyboards of Fulco Ottervanger.

Valentin Ceccaldi's other but equally captivating project, FiL, features Leïla Martial, the uncrowned queen of French vocal jazz, leading us into the enchanting world of their shared imagination with Le jardin des délices on 23 August. The duo made waves at Jazzahead! 2024 with their flow of boundless creativity following the release of their album last year on BMC Records.

"Every now and then, the engine of Europe has a marital crisis”: Saxophonist and bandleader Daniel Erdmann embarks on a free-improv journey filled with dissonances, odd time signatures, and jazz rock passages with his German-French sextet Thérapie de Couple. Performing in Saalfelden on 23 August and arriving to BMC early next year for a studio recording, Erdmann is joined by Théo Ceccaldi (violin), Hélène Duret (clarinet), Vincent Courtois (cello), Robert Lucaciu (bass), and Eva Klesse (drums).

Finally, violinist, mandolinist and composer Clément Janinet and his formation La Litanie Des Cimes, will perform on 24 August. Perhaps it's best to call it minimalist/meditative free jazz with a groove through the virtuosic delivery of this young master, who is now – after over 700 concerts in 35 countries and three BMC Records albums under his belt – playing in Saalfelden for the first time.
