The CD features different compositions, performed during the International Jazz Artist Contest “Riga Jazz Stage 2014”.
“The Best of Riga Jazz Stage 2014” features 12 compositions – originals and jazz standards – including the performance of the contest’s Grand Prix winners, vocalist Kristīne Prauliņa (Latvia) and sax player Batuhan Salliel (Turkey). Among the originals are “Room 400” by Davis Jurka and Malene Kjaergaard’s “Temporary Love Song”. The CD also festures performances of such contestants as Vytaute Pupšyte (Lithuania), Toms Rudzinskis (Latvia), Tamir Grinberg (Israel), Isabella Lundgren (Sweden), Charlotta Kerbs (Finland), Ayse Cansu Tanrikulu (Turkey), Ajda Stina Turek (Slovenia) un Loren Battley (USA).
All performances have been recorded during the contest at the legendary “Splendid Palace” cinema. Young artists were accompanied by Viktors Ritovs on keys, Artis Orubs on percussions and drums, Rihards Goba on guitar and Edvins Ozols on bass.
International Jazz Artist contest “Riga Jazz Stage” aims to discover and present young talent on the world-wide music scene, as well as allows young jazz artists to meet musicians and music experts from other countries. This year the contest was part of Riga 2014 – Riga as the European Capital for Culture – and was supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation.
The next edition of the contest – “Riga Jazz Stage 2015” – will take place from 9th to 11th April, in two categories – “Jazz Vocal” and “Jazz Trumpet”.
“These young musicians (participants of Riga Jazz Stage) undeniably are part of the current jazz scene. The contest itself, contestants and judges represent the importance and significance of it on the international jazz scene,” – Steve Rubie (606 Club, London)
