‘One of the world's largest and most ambitious festivals’ (Downbeat) returns, and they’re pulling out all the stops to bring you a bumper year as they celebrate 25 years . The line-up includes a wealth of international legends, with newly-commissioned music, emerging British stars and outstanding collaborations, as well as a broad programme of free showcases, and participatory projects all added into the mix.
From Abdullah Ibrahim and Ekaya, a brand new project from Marcus Miller, and Festival special from Robert Glasper. Also the infectious energy of Harlem Gospel Choir touching down from New York, and Average White Band with up-and-coming vocal power trio LaSharVu, as well as Paolo Conte’s powerful blend of jazz and tango rhythms.
Jaga Jazzist play alongside Sinikka Langeland, and there is a remarkable new work commissioned from Phronesis, Dave Maric and Engines Orchestra.
Further shows include Tomasz Stańko's New York Quartet, the remarkable Cuban piano pairing of Chucho Valdés and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, the sonic universe of ECM artist Andy Sheppard, the exquisite mandolin and piano combo of Chris Thile and Brad Mehldau, a trip to the Mediterranean with Taksim Trio and Dorantes, the incomparable Ben l’Oncle Soul singing Frank Sinatra, Snarky Puppy's Bill Laurance, Henri Texier's Hope Quartet, a trip to Napoli with Stefano Bollani and the Beats & Pieces Big Band.
