The future of improvised music

We are very proud to be a part of Melting Pot and excited for this year's project landing in Oslo in May. This year we are being visited by some very talented musicians from Poland, Germany, Norway, Belgium and Austria.

In Norway it's common to train our professional skiers in high altitudes to gain a competitive edge for endurance. We feel that Melting Pot is a comparable project, where already talented, young musicians are given the chance to hone their skills with both mentors, on each other and on high expecting audiences all around Europe. A fine chance for a competitive advantage, but that is up to the musicians and what they pick up along the way.

The project is long running, an initiative started in 2013 by Jazztopad in Wrocław, partnering with Jazzfest Berlin, Handelsbeurs in Ghent and Saalfelden Jazz Festival with support from the Europe Jazz Network. We at Nasjonal Jazzscene in Oslo have been proud partners since 2019.

This year's line-up consists of Julia Stein – violin, Pak Yan Lau – keys, electronics, Guro Kvåle – trombone, Sofia Eftychidou – bass and Max Plattner on drums. This evening, completely free of charge, you can experience five original voices doing what they love together – you won't find a stronger force of energy!
