For the first time in Poland an American saxophonist and multireedist Colin Stetson will perform his post-rock interpretation of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki’s 3rd Symphony in Katowice the 18th of December.
The most famous polish composer Henryk Mikołaj Górecki created his ‘Symphony of Sorrowful Songs’ in 1977. It became one of the biggest sellers of classical music of all time, when Elektra Nonesuch’s 1992 recording of the 3rd Symphony was released. The disc was sold in over 1 million copies.
For Colin Stetson Górecki’s 3rd Symphony is a masterpiece that touched him deeply and even transformed him. That gave him a courage to perform it in his own style. “Sorrow”, led by Stetson, is a re-imagining of Górecki’s most famous piece.
He invited to this project 12 exceptional musicians, with his wife, violinist Sarah Neufeld or Singer Megan Stetson among others.
The performance of “Sorrow” in Katowice, a city dear to Górecki’s heart and place of his eternal rest after death in 2010, is a Colin Stetson’s tribute to composer and his immortal masterpiece.
