- Friday, April 19 at 8.30pm at the Théâtre de l'Archipel: Violeta y el jazz
Singer, songwriter, composer, guitarist and self-taught harpist, as well as painter, sculptor, ceramist, etc. depending on the mood, Violeta Parra will forever leave her mark on her native Chile and far beyond. Her relentless promotion of Latin American cultures and the rich contribution she made to them are still revered today, more than fifty years after her death. "Without Violeta, there would be no Joan Baez, no Bob Dylan! She invented and spread what was to revolutionize popular music in the 60s: folk." These are the words of Emiliano Gonzalez Toro, an exceptional tenor with Chilean roots, who offers this tribute concert to this woman artist, woman of the people turned legend. The singer puts his whole heart into it, from soul to sighs, set to jazz arrangements by goldsmith pianist Thomas Enhco. But here, jazz speaks South American, and is fiery, laughs, cries, shivers, celebrates life, talks to the angels and dances for the Pachamama!
- Thursday, April 25 at 9pm at El Mediator: Fülü
They advance masked, half wooden beasts, half azimuth aliens, but their intentions seem peaceful and laudable. Certainly their nature as untamed creatures exudes a real savagery with haunting electro trance grooves, just as they also deliver the vibes of the best summer parties. So, in a contemporary, joyously bubbling fanfare, they invite everyone into their mysterious universe, like a ritual celebration in an enchanted forest where you'll feel surprisingly at home. Sun-drenched jazz for a nocturnal ceremony, powerful brass for fine sensitivity, FÜLÜ's funny animals also seduce with more dreamlike moments. A few voices chanted in lilting Italian demonstrate once again that they come in peace, as benevolent visitors and generous musicians. Occijazz will appreciate them by including them in their 2023 prize-winner bouquet, and ElMédiator and Jazzèbre by programming them for you (and us).
- Tuesday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Montserrat Caballé Conservatory: Flash pig
With great support from the Conservatoire de Perpignan - and we'd like to thank them for it - we welcome back Flash Pig with a tenfold delight in everything they've achieved since their arrival in 2017, both individually and as a group. Between collaborations with big names and prestigious competitions, we're now also delighted to read a press that's gone crazy about this quartet, just like us. Coup de coeur from the Académie Charles Cros, band of the year 2022 for Jazz Mag and Jazz News, etc. All praise the talent - the talents - of this group, which handles delicacy and great freedom of tone, classic jazz and delightful innovations. Although they've been a fixture on the French jazz scene for some time, the musicians at work here are barely thirty, with the vigor and boldness of young mad dogs and a beautiful, resonant friendship.
- Saturday May 8 and Sunday May 19: Zah-Zuh Festival
The Zah-Zuh Festival adventure began with the Jazzèbre team's desire to promote musical creation for young audiences. This year's theme is the voyage of initiation, and the Jazzèbre team is delighted to bring back its childlike spirit to bring you a festival for young and old, where the music is in full swing.
