First-ever world music showcase presents 8 bands on July 6
A to JazZ, Bulgaria’s prominent jazz festival, announced the selected musicians for the country’s first- ever world music showcase festival. Hand-picked by an international jury, eight groups will present their music on July 6 in front of an audience of 15.000 people, including delegates from Europe, Turkey, China, and many others. Contestants will also be offered feedback meetings on July 7 and participate in the A to JazZ Talks conference.
Selected artists come from all over, including a striking set of names from the Balkans; Romanian folkrock group TUMBE, Serbian body percussion duo Alice in WonderBand, and Bulgarian vocalist Belonoga shine a rare light on the versatile talents of the region. From Hungary, world music party machine Duckshell and the country’s folksy answer to groups like ZAZ, Ephemere joins the showcase ranks. Belgian percussion debutants Hands in Motion, Congolese afropop-chanson singer Fanie Fayar, and Greek vocal duo Argalios complete the event’s lineup. Jurors for the Showcase’s debut included Marina Pommier of Sziget Festival, Kostadin Shurbanovski of OFF FEST and Skopje Jazz Fest, Pannonica’s Ula Nowak, Todo Mundo & Ring Ring Association’s Bojan Djordevic, and Peter Dimitrov of A to JazZ Festival. Delegates and jurors join showcasing artists on July 7 for a special feedback meeting and two panels titled “Go to Market!” and “How to Showcase”, led by international industry professionals.
That day, on July 7, A to JazZ Festival starts its regular program of concerts, a handmade art market, the A to JazZ Kids Educational Program, jam sessions, and afterparties. The full lineup will be announced by mid-April. Have a look at all showcase artists here
