Kaja Draksler solo
CD Club
After appearing with her quintet within the scope of 13 Points Plus and performing with Jure Pukl’s quartet on Friday, Kaja Draksler gave a solo piano recital yesterday that offered an insight into this composer and improviser’s broad emotional horizons.
An idiosyncratic adaptation of a piece by Vijay Iyer was followed by a premier rendition of a four-movement suite that featured a number of musical hues ranging from reflections and nostalgic moments to daring experimentations in noise. For the Army of Me by Björk Draksler somewhat adapted the sound of her instrument, providing variegated accompaniment with her left hand, which summoned the feelings inherent in Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano by John Cage. The recital also included Draksler’s original material Sanje, Andromeda and Army of Drops as well as Work by Thelonious Monk. Andraž Jež
