Katowice Jazz camp for Girls 2025

JazzCamp for Girls is an international initiative in the form of workshops aimed at increasing the interest of girls aged 10-15 in the practice of improvisation and jazz. The project was initiated by JazzDanmark as a response to gender inequality in the jazz industry and expanded as a network of jazz camps around the world. Since 2022, it has also been successfully implemented in Poland by the Konsek Kultury Foundation and the Katowice Miasto Ogrodów Cultural Institution. The first edition of the project won the “Sunflowers” Award for the most developmental initiative for children in the Silesian Voivodeship in the Music category, and each year the recruitment closes in an increasingly shorter period of time.

The third edition of JazzCamp for Girls in Katowice will take place at the beginning of summer vacation, from June 30 to July 4, 2025, with a completely new tutoring team. This year, the participants will be supported musically and substantively by: Malina Midera - a young generation jazz pianist studying in Copenhagen,Franciszek Pospieszalski – jazz double bass player, graduate of the Danish conservatory and award-winning leader, Zofia Ilnicka – flutist active on the improvised music scene, and Piotr Damasiewicz – jazz trumpeter, creator of many projects and, above all, improviser operating at the intersection of various genres.

The workshops cover improvisation and the basics of composition, as well as developing teamwork skills. They also help to break down barriers, build self-confidence in a supportive environment and open up to creative thinking. This year, the musical activities will be complemented by a lecture on improvisation by Rafał Mazur and a workshop “Mindful Body” by Agnieszka Gorajska - concerning the awareness of relaxing the body while playing an instrument.

The final concert of JazzCamp for Girls will be held on Friday, 4.07.2025 at 5:30 pm in the concert hall Katowice Miasto Ogrodów at 2 Sejmu Śląskiego Square in Katowice.

Participation in the workshop as well as admission to the final concert is free.
