The concert venue in Tours invites the musicians of the Frontline project for a concert on Wednesday, November 6th. Earlier in the day, the venue will host a masterclass by drummer Romarna Campbell, mentor of the project, with students from the Jazz à Tours school. Finally, Janine Irons, director of Tomorrow’s Warriors, will participate on November 8th in a meeting titled “For a Truly Inclusive Jazz Scene.”
Tomorrow’s Warriors
Co-founded in 1991 by Janine Irons and Gary Crosby, the association is committed to making jazz music accessible to everyone, particularly addressing young people from ethnic minorities, women, and those whose financial situation might hinder learning or pursuing a musical career. This is achieved through the free program, as well as outreach in various London communities.
Through classes, improvisation workshops, and regular performance opportunities, the program offers them a space to express themselves, build confidence, grow as artists, and establish lasting networks.
By creating a stimulating and cosmopolitan community, the association contributes to the vitality of the English scene and has already brought forth several major jazz figures, such as saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings, the band Kokoroko, and the collective Nérija.
Tomorrow's Warriors is a member of the European Jazz Network and was featured at the European Jazz Conference in Ghent in 2024.
Tomorrow's Warriors Frontline
Bringing together the 7 best female musicians from the London program "Tomorrow’s Warriors" (which has featured artists like Shabaka Hutchings, Ezra Collective, and Nubya Garcia), Frontline vigorously defends the place of women in jazz. Under the guidance of drummer Romarna Campbell, Frontline draws inspiration from great jazz names (from Thelonious Monk to Esperanza Spalding, including Nérija) while incorporating elements of jazz fusion, funk, and R&B. A striking and delightful live performance by a new generation of artists who are as talented as they are committed!
