Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla will be the main star of the festival Mladí ladí jazz
Festival Mladí ladí jazz has announced its autumn programme. The biggest star to visit the Czech Republic will be the Argentine composer Gustavo Santaolalla, a member of the unique Bajofondo formation and a renowned composer of film music, for which he has already been twice awarded the prestigious Oscar. The seventy-two-year-old musician will perform at Prague's Municipal House on 7 October and will present his solo album Ronroco, a remastered edition of his 1998 album containing original melodies inspired by traditional Argentine music.
Santaolalla first made his mark in the world of film with the music for the drama Brokeback Mountain, for which he was awarded not only an Oscar but also a Golden Globe in 2006. A year later, he repeated his Oscar triumph with his compositions for Babel. As a composer, he has also collaborated on other famous films such as Amores Perros, 21 Grams and Wild Tales, and has also written the soundtrack for the cult video game The Last of Us and contributed to the music for the series Narcos.
Mladí lad jazz festival will also bring other bands and musicians worthy of attention in the autumn. The American saxophonist and former wrestler Colin Stetson has recorded with Lou Reed and the Chemical Brothers, the Grammy Award-winning London duo Blue Lab Beats are famous for their remixes, which have millions of views on YouTube, the Irish duo Negro Impacto have impressed at the major festivals Forbidden Fruit and Electric Picnic, and the increasingly appreciated Belgian ECHT!

"The autumn programme of the Mladí ladí jazz festival will offer bold and innovative performers who draw on jazz and combine it with other genres. We want people to take away an extraordinary experience, so I am delighted that this year we can invite the audience to exceptional spaces - for example, the modernist Church of the Sacred Heart of the Lord on Jiřího z Poděbrad Square in Prague, where saxophonist Colin Stetson will perform. Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla will play for the first time in Prague in the generous Art Nouveau premises of the Municipal House," says Jan Gregar, director of the Mladí ladí jazz festival.
