THE FINEST SOUNDS FROM DAMASCUS TO ÜRÜMCHI
THURSDAY 16 - SATURDAY 18, JULY 2015

This summer the Morgenland Festival will come to the Bimhuis for the first time. Since 2005 the festival presents the best musicians from the Near- and Middle East, from traditional and classical music to avant-garde, jazz and rock in Osnabrück (Germany). During the three-day programme in Amsterdam Morgenland bares its soul, with remarkable cross-pollinations that originated during the previous editions of the festival.

MORE ABOUT MORGENLAND FESTIVAL IN OSNABRÜCK:
Since 2005 Morgenland Festival Osnabrück has programmed around 1000 musicians from Iran, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Syria, Lebanon, Armenia, Israel, Turkey, Pakistan and Xinjiang, China, including Kayhan Kalhor, Alim Qasimov, Jivan Gasparyan, Aynur, Kinan Azmeh, Franghiz Ali-Zadeh, Nader Mashayekhi en Saed Haddad.

Alongside the annual festival in Osnabrück, Morgenland has organized guest performances throughout the years in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Turkey. Some of these were spectacular in their political context.

The Morgenland Festival would like to remain a podium where musicians and audience can meet each other and that offers room for experiment, complexity, nuance, dialogue and development. The region that the festival focuses on, the Near and Middle East, are often being associated with clichés, either positive or negative. Morgenland would like to challenge this image with real experiences.
