One of the most anticipated music events of the year, Nilüfer Jazz Festival is back with its 8th edition from June 8 to 15. Returning to outdoor venues across Bursa this year, the festival will give music lovers a summer breeze with the live music of their favorite artists.
Set in the beautiful nature and rich cultural history of Bursa, , the district of Nilüfer is widely known for its young, dynamic and metropolitan spirit. This year Nilüfer Jazz Festival launches with the theme of “Tahayyül”, which means Imagination in Turkish. The Festival invites people, particularly young generations, to dream and imagine, anticipating an act of recognizing our power of imagination.
The festival delights music lovers with its inspiring programme that includes concerts by many local and international musicians as well as creative workshops centered around music.
Aim to inspire all the young souls out there, this year the festival makes its opening with one of the pioneering names of the Turkish jazz scene, Fatih Erkoç and drawing from a broad palette of influences from the Sephardic sounds of his upbringing, Middle Eastern maqam scales, North African Gnawa rhythms and the classic jazz trumpet lineage, Itamar Borochov. Mert Pekduraner is also taking the stage with his music that combines colorful sounds in addition to Yemen Blues which was founded in 2010 by composer and musician Ravid Kahalani, invites the participants to a unique live performance experience.
The festival audience will also enjoy Nova Norda’s inspiring live performance at Akçalar Lake while Kerem Görsev, one of the most important representatives of traditional jazz in Turkey, will meet music lovers with Elif Çağlar's unique voice. The duo will be accompanied by Volkan Hürsever on double bass and Ferit Odman on drums. GoGo Penguin who channel electronic and club culture atmospheres alongside minimalist, jazz and rock influences to create music that pulses and takes the audience into brand new realms. French artist Guillaume Perret, whose music combines pedal, saxophone and electric effects in an infinite universe, is preparing to take music lovers on an unforgettable musical journey. Producer, songwriter, composer and singer Jehan Barbur greets festival goers with her moving music and Volkan Öktem, one of Turkey’s leading drummers, is ready to lighten the Bursa nights. Taking the whole city under its spell, the festival will end with performances by pianist Maya Perest, who is inspired by ancient themes, and versatile acoustic musician Birkan Nasuhoğlu at Atlas Köyü.
In addition to the concerts, the festival will also host creative workshops that will take place with the participation of leading names in their fields.
In the Jazz Vocal Workshop, Elif Çağlar will focus on improvisation, which is the most important element of jazz, while also practicing some harmonies with the participants. Çağlar will also address many subjects from vocal technique to interpretation in the workshop, where she will also answer the participants' questions about jazz vocals. And Volkan Öktem will take music lovers on an unforgettable musical journey by introducing participants to the unknown aspects of jazz rhythms in the Drums Workshop.
