The Raahe Jazz on The Beach Festival will celebrate its 25th year 25 – 27 July 2013 serving Finnish and European quality music. The Swedish trumpeter Goran Kajfes has been booked to headline the festival. He was awarded the Nordic Music Prize for the best album of 2011. The other headliner will be Ricky-Tick Big Band featuring three rap artists Paleface, Tommy Lindgren and Redrama.
Kajfes will bring to Raahe his Subtropic Arkestra featuring other Swedish stars like, for example, Jonas Kullhammar, Per ‘Ruskträsk’ Johansson, and Johan Berthling. Kajfes has a Croatian background, and his band has been influenced by progressive rock and world music. The band’s album ‘The Reason Why Vol. 1’ was released in February and it has been applauded by critics around Europe.
Ricky-Tick Big Band, a band of 20 players, is led by composer-bandleader Valtteri Pöyhönen. It has been together for some five years and some of its musical influences can be traced back to the swing music of the 1930s. Now the band is joining forces with the three most credible Finnish rap artists Paleface, Tommy Lindgren and Redrama, and the result is a stunning union of rap and swing.
The second international signing for this year is the Italian Kekko Fornarelli Trio from Bari, which is the capital of the Apulia region in Italy. The trio has toured successfully for several years playing their lucid music around Europe.
Current Finnish bands that will play at Rantajatsit include the dazzling trio Mopo, Beninese-Finnish afro-jazz lineup Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble, Mikko Innanen’s famous Innkvisitio, and the promising Virta trio. The children’s concert will feature Kauhukakara, a lively band featuring Anni Egecioglu and Pauli Lyytinen from Elifantree. Local sounds will be represented by the Raahe-based bands Bad Lemonade and Yellow Book.
There will be some slight updates to the festival program, and ticket sales will start in May. A spesific program and more information will be added here.
