On April 01, 2022 Jazzbüro Hamburg e.V. invited the jazz scene and its friends to the new JazzHall an der Alster to celebrate the release of the special edition of the Jazz City Hamburg sampler.
For the 5th edition of the biennial sampler, the Jazzbüro was able to announce a unique composition competition. The Ministry for Culture and Media provided € 130,000 for this purpose. A renowned jury of experts selected the 24 best compositions from 60 applications. The Jazzbüro organized the individual productions up to the production of the sampler.
Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media: "The Jazz City Hamburg Sampler shows once again that the cultural city of Hamburg has been very active even in the last years of the Corona pandemic and that great art has been created, in this case 24 outstanding pieces of music. The sampler proves the impressive vitality and diversity of the independent jazz scene in Hamburg and also shows the potential of cross-genre collaboration. I would like to thank the Jazzbüro Hamburg for the dedicated and professional realization of this project."
Dr. Carsten Brosda spoke an inspiring greeting, the moderator and Jazzbüro board member Stephanie Lottermoser conducted entertaining interviews with Mr. Brosda, the managing director Réka Csorba, Giovanni Weiß as participating artist and Vlatko Kucan for the jury.
We could enjoy the live performances of the artists involved in these recordings. Echo Jazz award winner from 2013 and 2014 guitarist Giovanni Weiß and CLEO (Cleo Steinberger) showed once again what they are capable of. It was great to see and hear these young musicians together on stage after such a long break.
At the champagne reception, many of the artists finally got to see, talk and enjoy each other again after a long time.
