According to NPR, pianist Sean Mason's music is “exceptionally groovy”. On his debut album, The Southern Suite, Mason puts a contemporary spin on the music he grew up with in Charlotte, North Carolina. He blends the gospel of the church with the rawness of the street and the groove of the blues with the melody of Broadway. He moved to New York on the recommendation of jazz hero Branford Marsalis, who was immediately impressed by his playing.
