SEEKING EUROPEAN COLLABORATORS FOR JAZZ PROJECT WITH CHILDREN

Sørnorsk jazzsenter (the regional jazz center of Southern Norway) have a pilot for a childrens jazz project this year that we’ve called Trassjazz (Despite Jazz). We’ve been encouraged by the Norwegian Creative Europe desk to apply for a Creative Europe project and are looking for 2-3 collaborators that also have jazz projects for children to do a medium sized Creative Europe project the next couple of years. Since we are situated in Northern Europe we’ve been recommended that the other partners should be located in Southern and/or Eastern Europe, but feel free to contact us even though you’re not situated there. Next deadline is in January/February 2025, but it’s a big application so we want to land collaborators early autumn this year.

Our pilot this year consists of 8 short day courses for 7-15 year olds. So far we’ve had three workshops at the festivals Mandaljazz, Canal Street and Parkjazz. We will have five more workshops this autumn in collaboration with jazz clubs and big bands. We have trained two local musicians as instructors and each day course has ended with a little concert. We have learnt some things from the pilot already what we want to change, but the overall experience is positive and we’re positively surprised by how many girls have attended as one of our part goals is to work with gender equality in jazz from the bottom up.

We would love to meet with possible collaborators at the Europe Jazz Conference in Ghent! Contact Tara at post (AT) sornorskjazzsenter.no if you’re interested!
