Fr, 4th to Wed. 9th of October 2024 Step across the border: Slovenia
https://porgy.at/en/events/series/107/
Step across the Border" is a theme that probably gives P&B a certain unique selling point. Since 1998, we have been shedding light on music scenes that have received less attention in this country as well as other "blank spots" on the jazz map of Eastern/South-Eastern Europe. Starting with Russia ("Good News from Russia - New Music from the old USSR - unimaginable nowadays!), these were countries such as Poland, Croatia, Romania, Serbia-Montenegro, Bulgaria, Hungary, Macedonia, Turkey and Czech & Slovakia, which - as it turned out - were each given the most comprehensive presentation of their jazz scene outside their own country. In October, our southern neighbor Slovenia will follow with a six-day focus in cooperation with the Slovenian cultural information center Skica and curated by Bogdan Benigar, who directed the Ljubljana Jazz Festival for many years, which incidentally experienced its 65th edition this year, making it one of the "oldest" jazz festivals in Europe. Topla dobrodošlica!
