Two outstanding saxophonists perform at Turner Sims Southampton in June

Composer and improvisor Dee Byrne pushes the boundaries of jazz and experimental music. She brings music from her latest Whirlwind release Outlines on Tuesday 18th. Dee and her band bring a sound that has evolved from a creative experiment: introducing visual art into her composition practice. Out of this, short musical sketches emerged that stood alone as artistic statements. These short statements are ‘Outlines’ – a springboard for this dynamic ensemble to go in new, exciting directions every time.

Renowned saxophonist and composer Iain Ballamy leads a jazz supergroup on Thursday 20th June. Fascinada (Spellbound) features a stellar band, including extraordinary BBC Young Generation Artist guitarist Rob Luft, ECM recording artist pianist Huw Warren, the top contemporary bassist Conor Chaplin and highly regarded percussion powerhouse Will Glaser. Celebrating five Brazilian musical legends, the band perform covers from the greats, and original compositions created in the spirit of Ivan Lins, Milton Nascimento, Tom Jobim, Joao Bosco and Hermeto Pascoal. Experience a range of Brazilian musical styles, the art of group jazz improvisation and mesmerising interplay between band members.
