Pianist Yonathan Avishai (Tel Aviv, 1977) is known for his lyrical contributions to the work of trumpet player Avishai Cohen. Yonathan is inspired by the work of his musical soul mate Avishai Cohen. For the past five years, however, Yonathan has also been playing with his own trio, adding Israeli bass player Yoni Zelnik and French drummer Donald Kontomanou to complete his sound. In July 2019 ECM Records released their impressive Joys and Solitudes. An album with compositions referring to a wide variety of musical experiences, his travels to the Republic of the Congo and a creative reply to Ojos Negros the album by Dino Saluzzi and Anja Lechner. All these influences express themselves in traditional piano, combining blues and swing with originality, brevity and decisiveness.
