Early music published for dancing was usually arranged for the 'Society Orchestra', consisting of a string section, cl., fl., cornet, trombone, and piano and drums. These arrangements included oboe, bassoon & Fr. Hr parts. As most towns did not have a full orchestra, arrangements were cross cued. The most popular instrumentation was: lst vl, fl, cl, crt, trb, stg bass, piano, & drums. The arrangements ranged from easy to medium difficult.
