20:30 Luc Ex’ Music of Inevitable Sounds

New music by Luc Ex based on inevitable everyday sounds, performed by an international ensemble featuring nine singular improvisers. Ventilators, concrete mixers or a noisy shopping street, all examples of everyday sounds which we cannot escape. At the same time we need these sounds to keep our society running. Luc Ex chose nine of these sounds and made nine musical pieces with them, which will be performed by nine musicians. Sound technician Clare Gallagher will shape their sound in a unique live concert. Luc Ex, originally the bass player for The Ex, has been bringing together pioneering musicians from all over the world for years, in various bands. For Music of Inevitable Sounds he was inspired by ground breaking composers such as Harry Partch, John Cage and Luigi Russolo.

Luc Ex bass – keyboards; Yedo Gibson – sax; Joost Buis – trombone; Mika Szafirowski – guitar; Gabor Hartyiani – cello; Renato Ferreira – bass & sax; Nora Mulder – piano & zither; Veryan Weston – piano: Pepe Garcia – percussion

23:00 Alfie Ryner – RASA

Hypnotising, punky impro jazz. Growling and prowling music, pouncing on you like a bolt from the blue; that about covers the intense experience of a performance by the French band Alfie Ryner. The group was founded in 2006 by 5 artists with one collective goal in mind: experimenting with new concepts of improvised music. Not only are numerous influences from the jazz idiom incorporated by Alfie Ryner, but also infuences from punk, rock and world music. “What these guys like playing is jazz or even free jazz also with a bit of world music. Long saxophone and trombone choruses and crazy rhythmic patterns: fans of Soft Machine or Magma will not feel lost with the music of Alfie Ryner.”

Francisco « Paco » Pozo Serrano – sax & vocals; Gérald Gimenez – guitar; Guillaume Gendre – double bass; Guillaume Pique – trombone & machines; Lauris Pertoldi – drums
