inJazz > inConference (29 June)
inJazz, a catalyst for new developments, is bringing together the supply and demand sides of the jazz scene, so knowledge and experience can be shared and international relationships formed. The conference programme on Friday 29 June in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) includes inspirational panels, workshops, a matchmaking programme, music pitches and presentations. inJazz is venturing south this year and puts its focus on Switzerland, Austria and Italy. These countries with a distinctly different but equally fanatical jazz scene will present themselves. Representatives are colleagues from Music Austia, Novara Jazz, Pro Helvetica, Casa del Jazz, JazzMi and many others. New at the conference is the panel ‘Gender & Jazz’. An international group of professionals talks about positions occupied by women and about the state of affairs in all sections of the jazz and world music business. Is the gender gap different between artists, managers, bookers and programmers? What changes are already being made, with successful results from which we can learn?

inJazz > inFestival (28 & 29 June)
On both nights - Thursday 28 and Friday 29 June – promising Dutch and European jazz acts, but also more seasoned groups, will hit the stage to show what they’re capable of. Both nights can be visited free of charge! The selected acts hope to gain new fans and to level up their career. The next generation of jazz is attending under the moniker – surprise! – Next Generation Jazz, rounding up the most talented master students of the seven Dutch conservatories. A number of important European jazz festival promoters taking part in the European Talent Program for jazz have picked a remarkable jazz act from their country. It is the intention that these bands will perform at all of the European festivals in the near future, including inJazz. New this year is the Dutch World Stage. Jazz is the foremost musical genre to engage in ground-breaking crossovers and world music often proves to be jazz’s favourite partner. That’s why inJazz 2018 has opted for a special focus on world music ensembles during the Friday night festival programme showing international quality, aspiration and allure. A fruitful collaboration of inJazz and World Music Forum NL, commissioned by Dutch Performing Arts. The selected world music acts are: Lingua Franca Ensemble, Shishani & the Namibian Tales, Son Swagga and Tabanka.
