Novara is preparing to another long season of music. NovaraJazz artistic directors, Corrado Beldì and Riccardo Cigolotti, announce an intense calendar with over 35 events, from Thursday 11 October 2018 to Tuesday, April 30, 2019. The new season ends with the big party to celebrate the Unesco International Jazz Day.
NovaraJazz is confirmed as the only stage in Novara for jazz, improvisation, electronic experimentation and contamination between the arts and as an aggregator of artistic realities and excellence of the territory.
It starts Saturday, November 3 at 9 pm at Piccolo Coccia Theatre with Jaimie Branch and his latest project Fly Or Die (Jaimie Branch, trumpet, Lester St. Louis, cello, Jason Ajemian, double bass, Chad Taylor, drums ). A pillar of the Chicago jazz scene and a recent and active addition to the New York scene, Jaimie Branch is an avant-garde trumpet player known for his "spooky sounds", as the New York Times says.
On Saturday November 24th, at 9 pm at Caserma Passalacqua, The Digital Primitives will be staged (Assif Tsahar, saxophones, bass clarinet, Cooper-Moore, piano, voice, Chad Taylor, drums , percussion). The name sums it up: they are both modern and ancient, explorers and researchers, deeply rooted in the past while tracing a new path to the future.
On Tuesday 28 November at 9 pm on the stage of Teatro Coccia debuts a poetic appointment that combines dance and jazz: Una crepa, nostalgia dell'oro with the dancers Elisa D'Amico and Lucia Guarino and Matteo Bortone on double bass and electronics. The choreography is designed by Lucia Guarino. The sound will dance with the biological bodies through friction, the pinching of the strings, the striking the sound box.
On Saturday 26 January the first appointment of the new year is at Istituto Musicale Brera with Aliou Ndiaye Taxuraam + Ararat Ensemble Orchestra (Aliou Ndiaye Taxuraam, xalam, voice, Michele Branzoli, flute, Piero Geymonat, accordion, Angelo Ipri, sax, Alessandro Dimarsico , sax, clarinets, Filippo Dacarro, keyboards, sinthos, Marta Cametti, vibraphone, piano, Fabio Dotti, guitar, bass, Enzo Orlandi, bass, Fabrizio Buttò, mandolin, percussion, Elia Moretti, percussion, Nicola Arata, drums). In Novara the Ensemble will present the African Suite, the second of the album Esodi - Trilogia dei Popoli in Fuga, dedicated to the soloists of the National Orchestra of Senegal, Aliou Ndiaye Taxuraam.
On Saturday 23 February at 9 pm at Piccolo Coccia there will be Roots Magic (Alberto Popolla, clarinet, bass clarinet, Errico DeFabritiis, alto saxophone, Gianfranco Tedeschi, double bass, Fabrizio Spera, drums). The music of Roots Magic starts from the blues roots of the '20s and' 30s, and joins the compositions of some jazz luminaries.
On Saturday, March 16 at 9 pm at Piccolo Coccia there will be Alessandro Giachero Danse (Fulvio Sigurtà, trumpet, live electronics, Alessandro Giachero, piano, Michele Rabbia, drums, percussions). The project comes from original compositions by Alessandro Giachero, manipulated and developed by the trio. The compositional aspect is combined with improvisation by seeking and developing a unitary language in a narrative and strongly expressive development.
The special event in NovaraJazz season 2018/2019 is the unpublished project Gianluigi Trovesi & Rudy Migliardi with the Banda Filarmonica di Oleggio, in concert at Teatro Civico in Oleggio on Sunday 25th November at 5 pm.
On Tuesday, 30 April 2019 NovaraJazz celebrates the International Jazz Day with NovaraJazz Collective at Opificio – Cucina e Bottega in Novara: Francesco Chiapperini, clarinet; Filippo Cozzi, sax; Vito Emanuele Galante, trumpet; Francesca Petrolo, trombone; Simone Lobina, guitar; Roberta Brighi, electric bass; Fabrizio Carriero, drums. They are musicians from the new Italian scene belonging from creative and improvised music scene. The result is a fresh, vital music, in the wake of modernity.
Every Thursday from 11 October 2018 to 28 March 2019 will be Taste of Jazz at Opificio – Cucina e Bottega in Novara with 21 events in which music, food and wine come together in a real blaze of senses.
NovaraJazz signs agains the Aperitivi in... Jazz program organized by Teatro Coccia for four Sundays in the morning, at 11:30 am at the Piccolo Coccia: Sidewalk Cat Quintet on Sunday 4th November; Simona Severini in a Lucio Dalla Tribute on Sunday 25th November; Sonia Spinello Billie Holiday Project Trio on Sunday 27th January; Giorgia Barosso Quintet in a Chick Corea Tribute on Sunday 17th February.
