The annual Jazz November festival, organised by Jazzforum Bayreuth, is a top-class event that genuinely lights up the grey eleventh month of the year.
The international jazz artists who have been performing there include Joachim Kühn, Uri Caine, Wolfgang Haffner and Billy Cobham. Jazz November also features ‘musical insider tips’ such as Sons of Kemet from the UK (2015) and Wojtek Mazolewski from Poland (2018), who are virtually unknown here in Germany.
Audiences can look forward to a fantastic mix of genres, from classic club concerts and intimate piano evenings to dance parties with plenty of soul. And the venues are equally diverse, with locations including a sparkling 80s-themed disco, a Baroque-style chamber music hall and a rustic jazz stage at a brewery pub. This fascinating melting pot is what makes Jazz November such a unique attraction for visitors from all over Germany.
The small, exclusive festival always takes place from Thursday to Sunday on the first weekend after Bavaria’s autumn school holiday. It is organised by Jazzforum Bayreuth e.V., which has received numerous awards for its excellent music programmes. In 2017 it won the City of Bayreuth’s Culture Award, and it is the recipient of five coveted APPLAUS Awards (for excellent live music programmes at independent venues), which are presented by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, Professor Monika Grütters.
Next year’s festival runs from 12 to 15 November 2019.
