Fostering cross-cultural communication between the United States and Russia through the language of music and the deeply democratic art-form of jazz, Igor Butman meets Randy Brecker to form a versatile and truly virtuosic sextet.
World famous saxophonist, bandleader and producer Igor Butman is considered one of Russia’s most well known and respected jazz musicians. Butman has released over 10 albums both as a leader and co-leader, including the “Magic Land” (Sony Classic) with Chick Corea, Jack DeJohnette, John Patitucci, Stefon Harris and Randy Brecker, which went Gold in Russia and became a bestseller in the United States and Germany. In 2016, Criss Cross Jazz released “Reflections” by Igor Butman-Conrad Herwig Sextet featuring Alex Sipiagin, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Dave Kikoski and Kenny Davis. Igor produces eleven high-scale international jazz festivals — including Triumph of Jazz in Moscow, Tula and St. Petersburg, Sochi Jazz Festival, Jazz Seasons to name a few.
Jazz trumpeter and composer Randy Brecker has helped shape the sound of jazz, R&B and rock for over five decades with a history as varied as it is distinguished. His versatility has made him a popular studio musician. Randy Brecker' trumpet and flugelhorn performances have graced hundreds of albums by a wide range of artists from James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Parliament/Funkadelic to Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, Jaco Pastorius and Frank Zappa.
The other members of the sextet are a congregation of Russia's topmost jazz soloists: recent winner of Herbie Hancock institute of Jazz Guitar Competition, guitarist Evgeny Pobozhiy, 2nd prize winner at the 2018 Sarah Vaughan Vocal Competition, extraordinary pianist and vocalist Oleg Akkuratov, bass player Sergey Korchagin and drummer Eduard Zizak.
