Moving on as project developer in music and other artistic sectors
After 14 years, as of April 1, Ikaros van Duppen will be leaving Buma Cultuur. During these years Van Duppen was responsible for various Buma Cultuur projects. "Time to move on", according to the genre manager. "A great loss", says Buma Cultuur managing director Frank Helmink.
Ikaros van Duppen developed many new projects for Buma Cultuur. Under his supervision projects like inJazz, Dutch Composer Laureate, Buma Music in Motion and New Music Conference were developed. In 2007 Van Duppen started to develop projects to support Dutch composers and publishers. Numerous activities such as showcase festivals, conferences and trade missions were set up. Besides he started various partnerships in which case Buma Cultuur supports existing projects.
This way projects like Toonzetters, inJazz, Buma Music in Motion, Dutch Composer Laureate and New Music Conference were created, but Van Duppen also started partnerships with Annie M.G. Schmidtprijs, Buma Boy Edgar Prize, World Music Forum, Gaudeamus and November Music. Besides, in cooperation with JazzNL, jazz trade missions and missions to Musexpo Los Angeles and Jazzahead! Bremen were set up. "This way we were able to put Buma members on the map even more, to professionals as well as to the audience", says Van Duppen.
Helmink: "Of course it is very regrettable when someone who is this committed to promote music from the Netherlands leaves Buma Cultuur. But after such a long time we need to allow him a new phase in his career. We are very grateful to Ikaros for his relentless and creative commitment."
Van Duppen: "The development stage is the best! After working on this with amazing teams for 14 years, I’ll be searching to help develop new specials projects. As project developer I’ll be focussing on music and other artistic projects. As strategic quartermaster highly skilled in bringing together the right people from a large national and international network of music professionals I’m able to kickstart new initiatives within a short amount of time. Together with a group of motivated pioneers I hope to put a new dot on the horizon. Time to develop astonishing new projects in music or other art forms."
