Omar Puente Sextet
SUMMER NIGHTS @ TURNER SIMS
Internationally renowned for his masterful performances, world class violinist Omar Puente established himself as a true virtuoso in his native Cuba before moving to the UK in 1997, performing all over the world. Throughout his career Omar has supported and shared the stage with a whole host of other stars; Tito Puente, John Williams, Nigel Kennedy, Courtney Pine and Wynton Marsalis to name a few.
Tonight, Omar and his band fill the hall with music from his 2016 release Best Foot Forward, a fusion of rhythms from Cuba, Brazil, Africa, Caribbean, Jazz, modern UK sound and further afield. Join us for some irresistible Latin-infused jazz, rich with energy and colour – the perfect soundtrack to a balmy summer night.
Omar Puente’s contribution to 20th and 21st century violin playing has now become legendary. His generous nature, his commitment to good music, his enjoyment of life and his respect for his colleagues are all characteristics which make him a true violin great. Nigel Kennedy
