Enjoy Jazz commissions composition on "1700 years of Jewish life in Germany": World premiere with Ensemble Modern and Emmanuel Witzthum at the National Theater Mannheim - melodies from prayer book of Mannheim synagogue destroyed in 1938
On Saturday, June 04, 2021, 7 p.m., a concert entitled "Verweile doch, du bist so schön" will take place at the Nationaltheater Mannheim (NTM). In the opera house, Ensemble Modern will premiere the composition of the same name by the Israeli musician Emmanuel Witzthum. Titled with the 1700th verse from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's "Faust", Witzthum integrates melodies from the prayer book of the cantor of the Mannheim synagogue destroyed in 1938. As part of its participation in the festival year "1700 years of Jewish life in Germany" Enjoy Jazz had commis- sioned a composition. The advance sale for the event is now open.
With the Ensemble Modern, Enjoy Jazz was able to win the internationally leading en- semble for contemporary music for this project. Together with the composer Emmanuel Witzthum on the live electronics, the musicians will perform the composition, which was created after extensive research in Jerusalem, Heidelberg and Mannheim, live for the first time at the National Theater. Tickets for the event are now available via the thea- ter’s webshop at www.nationaltheater-mannheim.de. Advance tickets cost between 12 and 44 euros.
