Also we in the Nasjonal jazzscene in Oslo, Norway are hopeful for the next year. We started with some cancellations, but after a while we were able to get visits from European musicians, and after a while also Americans to our stage this Autumn, and it even felt a bit like the before times! We are hoping for the best!
Our plan for the New Year is to host Bill Frisell Trio the 5.th January here at our beautiful stage in Oslo. This has been a long anticipated concert and we really hope that we can make it this time!
Our season opener 21. January is new music that we have commissioned from the fabulous Danish saxophone player Mette Rasmussen. In her Trio North she has put together a fabulous trio of Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Veslemøy Narvesen. The last time we heard Mette Rasmussen was with Godspeed You Black Emperor doing some fantastic improvisations, now she has deep dived into composing and will present some truly amazing stuff at the end of January.
We have programmed in some great international names like Craig Taborn for a solo show, Helen Sung Trio, Lakeisha Benjamin, Cecile McLorin Salvant, John Surman, Sheila Jordan with Cameron Brown, Jazzmeia Horn and John Scofield Trio. From our great Norwegian jazz meny, we have picked Stian Carstensen, Mats Eilertsen Quartet, Hans Magnus Ryan of Motorpsycho fame together with Thomas Strønen, Gard Nilssen and Petter Eldhs new band Unionen, Olga Konkova Trio, Elephant9, Maria Kannegaard Trio and many, many more. On paper, everything looks great, we hope it will be so too. Merry Christmas and all the best for the next year! See you!
