The European Folk Network (EFN) has announced that new funding from the European Music Council’s MusicAIRE programme will underwrite the inauguration of the first ever celebratory European Folk Day, scheduled for 23 September 2003.
EFN is led by former EJN President and Honorary Member Nod Knowles. Many EJN members, like him, are also involved in the promotion of various forms of folk and traditional music. And so are many jazz musicians – showcases at European Jazz Conferences in Estonia and Bulgaria were just two very clear examples of that cross-fertilisation.
Nod and the EFN Board of Directors are also clear that their network takes considerable inspiration from the work of EJN. Although in some ways the EFN structure and membership are different from EJN, the goals are very similar – to represent folk and traditional arts at European level in the way that EJN has been able to do for jazz creative and improvised music in Europe.
