About JazzEñe
JazzEñe is a programme organised by the SGAE Foundation, created to bring Spanish jazz onto the international scene, provide incentive for the participation of jazz bands in festivals, promote international tours by members of the SGAE and foster a coming together and exchange of experiences and knowledge between professionals in the sector (writers, artists, managers, programmers, festival directors, record labels) from here and from around the world.
Following its first edition, held in Madrid in 2014, the event moved to the city of Valencia and on to Zaragoza and Malaga. Now, in its ninth edition, this cycle bringing the reality of Spanish jazz to the audience and directors of European festivals will once again run as part of the San Sebastian Jazz Festival which, in its 58th year, represents one of the leading proponents of jazz, not only in Spain, but also in Europe and the rest of the world.
Over the years, numerous artists have performed their repertoires at festivals throughout Europe thanks to the Eñe programmes organised by the SGAE Foundation. Artists Chicuelo & Mezquida, featured at the Zaragoza edition, went on to perform at the Tokyo Jazz Festival. And, in 2018, the SGAE Foundation presented Eñe artists Antonio Lizana, Rycardo Moreno and Pedro el Granaíno at the Flamenco Biënnale’s White Nights project in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Also deserving a special mention is the participation in 2017 at the Amersfoort World Jazz Festival (Netherlands) of four groups to have participated in JazzEñe: Camerata Flamenco Project, Nono Garcia Trío, Alexey Leon Trío and Marco Mezquida Solo. In 2022 the Festival opened its doors to Basque groups, programming Oreka TX, whose distinctive and peculiar sound is that of the txalaparta.
