Belgrade Youth Center presents, from 24th to 29th October 2023, 39th Belgrade Jazz Festival with the slogan JAZZSCAPES.
The Belgrade Jazz Festival has been renowned for its current and relevant overview of the best contemporary jazz on the international and Serbian scene for over five decades. As the founder and patron of the Belgrade Jazz Festival, the City of Belgrade included it in events of special cultural interest in 2007.
Under the slogan JAZZSCAPES, the oldest Serbian jazz manifestation, will take this year the audience on a unique journey through the musical landscapes around the world, along with bands that push the boundaries of jazz and make this genre exciting and artistically valuable!
The Belgrade Jazz Festival continues along the lines of the previous editions by presenting a reference selection of eminent jazz artists from the United States of America, Serbia and the rest of the world, with new original programs. Having in mind membership in the European Jazz Network, the emphasis again is on European jazz, which makes up over eighty percent of the program. Genre diversity is a natural feature of the Festival: we will listen to swing and bebop, jazz-rock and fusion, free-jazz and other avant-garde tendencies, vocal and orchestral jazz, as well as different mixes of jazz with folklore, contemporary classics and electronics.
During the Festival's 6 days, over 100 artists from 20 countries from 4 continents will perform in 21 professional and several high school ensembles. The focus of the 39th edition is the saxophone - 9 bandleaders participating in the Festival are saxophonists, making this the most prominent display of this instrument's role in jazz in the recent history of the Festival. We are particularly proud of it, we'll get to hear 10 premieres: as many as 10 bands perform music that has been released this calendar year or has yet to be recorded.
Tickets are on sale at the eFinity box offices and online.
