Suzanne is a collective voice that brings together violist Maëlle Desbrosses, bass clarinettist Hélène Duret and guitarist Pierre Tereygeol in their quest for folk songs of the new century. In July 2024, the French trio heads to Estonia and Finland for a new episode of the Europe Jazz Network’s (EJN) Green Pilot Tour program.
Suzanne is a voice that hums and whispers timeless memories. The common sound of the instruments, but also rhythmically screaming, even brutally tearing. It is like a child who plays and sings all the melodies that he witnesses, an old man who passes on his memories, and these musicians play and sing all this that is given to them to hear.
The band’s name was inspired by Leonard Cohen’s legendary song. In its magic circle, a melodic approach meets traditional rhythms. Awareness of one’s own sound develops as the result of working on interpretation and chamber music composition work. The sound that alternately appears, alternately fades into inaudibility, always transports the trio to new, different soundscapes. “Travel Blind”, their first record was released after a French and European tour in October 2023 on the Gigantonium label.
